Challenges

I really enjoy Pat Sloan's challenges, especially during this time when we need to as our Gov calls it, Stay Safe in Place. Today's challenge was make a pillow.  It was pretty good timing as the other day I
an email came in from the Northern Lights Machine Quilting Guild(NLMQG) remind us of the “Orphan Block*” project. All day yesterday, I had been thinking of what to make. Here is my finished pillow cover. I’ll make a pillow from muslin. I will stuff with leftover quilt batting, that I can pull and fluff one night in front of the TV.       


You can see here is an overlap, about eight inches, on the reverse of the pillow that you can slide the pillow into. Sometimes it’s easier to turn the cover inside out and hold the pillow in place as you turn it right side out.

*An orphan block is a single block, one that is left over from a quilt. Maybe a block made to audition colors, workout details of how to make it, or a quilt that was abandoned after one or two blocks. Yes, it is ok to not finish a quilt, feel free to rotate that fabric into a different project that you’ll enjoy working on.

It’s been a while, but I've gotten a few things done. With Covid-19 and staying home I’ve been digging through projects giving a few away for others to finish up, or turn into other projects. Mostly, I have been finishing up some that were halted mid-stream. Some of these projects like a pack that fell out of the canoe in the rapids, others accidently dropped along the trail, some thrown overboard because an emergency popped up. During the Safe in Place orders around the world. I have had time to look back down the trail, and pick up the debris of fiber projects. Sorting to give, sorting to repurpose, sorting to complete, sorting to realize some stuff no body will do anything with it and just be the one to throw the supplies away. Throwing it away, if you are not an artist or crafter then you probably have a hard time understanding and label the aforementioned as hoarders. Rainbows and Aprons

This I trimmed pressed the blue squares for my rainbow quilt. Tonight I will press open the Indigo HSTs as I listen to Pat Sloan's Fireside Chat .  I had planned on doing some sorting and organizing, but my husband was painting the front entry way. There was no way I was going to interrupt him as he was working on a project I had asked him to do. I was happy he was getting that done today So instead I went right into one of the other projects on my list, an apron for a friend. I used and old apron I had from years ago as a pattern. I The big pocket across the loser section is fabric that was remaining from when she had asked me to teach her how to make masks. She is an amazing baker and cook, so I thought she would enjoy this. Busy Day Today

Last night I did check off a two for one on my UFO list. I finished the peacock bag. No not full of peacocks, how beautiful would hat be? I did count this bag as the gift bag for the garment I had made. Here is the pocket I sewed on to the lining, had to see one the bag is sewn together.  I chipped away a bit more on my Rainbow quilt. As I work I thought I might tie this with iridescent ribbon, making it a comforter.. I just spent a few minutes cutting the squares in half, so the next time, I’ll spend the 10 minutes pressing them open into HSTs This morning as I listed and watched Pat Sloan's challenge video , I pressed the blue squares for the Rainbow quilt . Ill trim them up tomorrow. THe pattern plan is ten blocks over two days, I am speding ten minutes each day to chip away at the project.
